A DAY AT THE RACES

Nice piece on the BMW ORACLE Racing team website a couple days back about corporate hospitality and what we do for our VIP guests to give them a day at the races second to none. Written by my flatmate these past two weeks, Ivor Wilkins, who is up from New Zealand to write features for the website and press releases taking a big load off our busier-than-ever team flack, Jane "Red Bull" Eagleson.

Ivor's article gives you a succinct view of how the Cup has grown, and how important corporate hospitality has become.

MOVING DAY...

...or should we say "week"? An email from Meg in Hamburg this morning....

>The movers are here. They have lots of flattened boxes in every room.
>There are carpets on the floor and bubble rap rolled up sitting in
>corners. The office is a mess. They aren't going to do it until
>tomorrow (which is good because then I can still send emails). We are
>going to live out of a suitcase for the next few days. But the weird
>thing is that when you live out of a suitcase you are usually at a
>hotel or resort or something, but we are at home! Its strange. But I'm
>really looking forward to getting down to Spain. This is so exciting.
>Can't wait.

Nor can I!

And if all goes according to plan, Act 5 ends here in Valencia on Sunday, we have the debrief meetings on Monday. That afternoon my Act 5 flat-mate, Kiwi journalist Ivor Wilkins who is here working for BMW ORACLE Racing these two weeks, flies home to Auckland. That evening, God and Air Berlin willing, Leslie, Meg and two cats arrive from Hamburg. Tuesday the moving truck arrives, and Wednesday/Thursday they unload. By next Friday we should be able to move into the our new home here after spending one last week in my small but otherwise quite comfortable and convenient team apartment.

BLOG No. 3
Now up and running on the...

...BMW ORACLE Racing website, is a blog that I have been asked to write for the Team. Direkt URL is www.bmworacleracing.com/blog, in case you care to avoid the frankly mortifying picture of the editor on the main site.

Has been fun but time-consuming, and well accepted by family and friends of the team, which is the the target audience.

VALENCIA PLAN ANNOUNCED (finally!)
Have been a bit busy the...

...past few days, indeed weeks, getting the "Valencia Plan" finalized. It is the format and scoring system for the Challenger Selection Series for the Louis Vuitton Cup (for the 32nd America's Cup). Tonight it is "done and dusted," having spent the day in press conferences explaining the details of this historic plan. Details at www.challengercommission.com and www.valenciasailing.blogspot.com, and at the official America's Cup website www.americascup.com.
