Public Servants

One of our search engines returned this tidbit to my email this morning, from an article that appeared in the Ann Arbor News last month (Thursday, 22 December):

Both Thomas Ehman and David Moody were reappointed to the Portage-Base Lakes Sewer Board, with terms ending Dec. 31. 2009.

That, of course, is Grandpa Tom, a.k.a. Tom Sr., and long-time family friend Dave Moody, both PYC racers and, for that matter, past commodores and current members of the Race Committee.

While we are at it, we recently learned that Tom Sr. was awarded the club's Thomas Lott Trophy, which recognizes outstanding service to the club. It was not the first time he received the award, but an unprecedented third time. The first was in 1971, then 1988 and now for the 2005 season -- or every seventeen years. Age 72 and still going strong, perhaps we can expect another win at age 89 in 2022? (but only if he lets Ruth choose the background music in the club's restaurant!) Nice going, Dad.

Congratulations, too, to Dr. Moody, recipient of the Club's 2005 "Sportsperson of the Year" award.

Not the first time we've run this photo, a favourite, here on the EFB. The 18' Interlake (above) along with the 19' Flying Scot are the two most popular classes racing on Portage Lake. Commodores Ehman, Sr. and Moody are both long time and successful Interlake-class racers.
